YOU can help with the next major mapathon event between September 28th and 30th, in New York and online globally. This is being organised by Crowd2Map, The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and YouthMappers.
This mapathon is part of an ongoing programme to build a global network to unite people from across the world to help map areas where girls are at risk of FGM. TDT’s Janet Chapman has led the way in the Tanzanian mapping programme.
At the time of writing, 45 countries are represented among those that have booked for the mapathon – truly a global effort!
This mapathon will run alongside a UN General Assembly High Level Panel event which will include discussion on how mapping can help the fight against female genital mutilation (FGM). As part of this, Rhobi Samwelly will be participating in a panel discussing FGM with Tanzanian Minister for Gender and an African president.
Anyone with an internet connection can get involved, from anywhere in the world. You can join as an individual, or organise a mapathon event at your workplace, school, or with your friends. You can hold your own mapathon.
