Ntuntu is a remote village in Ikungi District, about 50 kilometers from Singida town. In Ntuntu, opportunities for women to earn money after completing primary school are severely limited. They are often confined to working in village ‘pombe’ bars.
Village leaders supported by Hamza Rajabu, a Sokoine graduate, have set up an organization titled NODIP – Ntuntu Orphans and Disabled People. NODIP has found a local trainer to enable young women in the area to learn sewing and knitting skills. TDT’s support of this project has enabled them to acquire sewing and knitting machines.
Project Officer, Kevin Curley, met leaders and a group of young women and their mothers who are involved in this project. They have already received orders for school uniforms from local schools and have rented classrooms from the Catholic Church in Ntuntu as a space to complete their work.
